Most of the challenges we face in 2014 individually and globally are linked to information. Al Turing, the father of modern computer technology predicted in the early 1940s that there would be ‘thinking machines’. So much so that the average person would be unable to distinguish from human beings. More recently in 2001, leading futurist Ray Kurzweil predicted the emergence of “immortal software based humans”. In near years to come Kurzweil anticipated the merger of biological and nonbiological intelligence. By the 2030s we will have the capacity to reinvent ourselves, as part machine essentially.

Today, we are experiencing a reassessment of humanity’s fundamental nature. To the extent that the sceptre of the cyborg human is upon us. The software based human body, according to the optimists will be able to transmit oneself as information at the speed of light and therefore think a thousand times faster.

I am here not to convince you of anything, but simply to stimulate you to the possibilities. To open avenues of thought.

Posthumanity is the vision that we will be able to upload our mind into a computer. And when our physical body dies of disease, accident or old age you can live on. Probably through a new cyborg body. Ultimately, we will be able to scan and recreate the pattern of each of our salient neural and physical patterns to a remarkable degree of accuracy.

Questions arise us to whether the posthuman will comprise emotional, and spiritual content.

I expect to see the coming decades transform the planet into an art form; the new man, linked in a cosmic harmony that transcends time and space, will sensuously caress and mild and pattern every facet of the terrestrial artefact as if it were a work of art, and man himself will become an art form. There is a long road ahead, and the stars are only way stations, but we have begun the journey. To be born in this age is a precious gift, and I regret the prospect of my own death only because I will leave so many page’s of man’s destiny.
